Reflections on the Riots in the UK

As I watch the news unfold on the happenings in London and across the UK I do so with sadness and dismay. A country hit hard by the GFC, a country struggling with unemployment and now a country that is being destroyed from within. The violent actions of the people involved is destroying not simply buildings but whole communities. The communities affected are some of the most disadvantaged in the UK, the scars that will be left will do nothing to bring about positive change but rather leave people feeling betrayed. I can only imagine the fear that people will be experiencing not just now but in weeks, months and possibly years to come. Never has violence brought about true peace. I can’t but wonder what is running through the minds of those who are looting and setting fire to buildings in their own community, destroying the lives and livelihoods of those in their midst. The question has to be how do we engage with such a situation, how do we engage with the people who I can only assume are filled with so much anger and hatred?

About revthreads

I originally decided to get a blog because I think any adventure, travel experience should be journaled and then thought it's good to share. Some things may be interesting to others and other things not so much but sharing is good! I love to travel, I don't get to do as much as I would like, ultimately it would be my dream to just pack up, head off and keep going for as long as possible seeing and experiencing new things, meeting new and interesting people. Like a lot of people I have family and work commitments that keep me grounded, but I am fortunate enough to have a fair few opportunities to head out and live life to the full.
