Oban

Well after a long drive yesterday we arrived at The Wide Mouth Frog Hotel just outside of Oban. The first absolute plus of this accommodation is the great vegetarian options, not just macaroni cheese but a vegetarian stew in red wine, tempura vegetables and a full English vegetarian breakfast, yes that’s right full English VEGETARIAN option, very impressed! It’s a small, friendly little place with a very welcoming room and bed. We didn’t put much thought into the fact that today is Sunday and most of Oban centre is closed until lunch, but c’est la vie! Oban is a beautiful place, the scenery is amazing, we arrived to rain but to watch the mist and clouds along the mountain scape is just a little bit spectacular. Today is brighter, but still the mist and clouds roll. Their is something quite quite mystical about the Scottish mountains, something awe-some. This is my first visit back to Scotland since my father died some 19 years ago, he was originally from Glasgow. I did feel some connection as we arrived, so many familiar names of places, memories of my years as a child traveling too and from Scotland, a soul connection. The mountain strewn countryside is breathtaking, the stone buildings and the eerie presence of the mist on the loch’s what else could bring you an air of mystique, a sense of presence, a sense of more.

We have spent the afternoon, wandering, tomorrow we head off to the ferry to Mull our final destination for tomorrow is the isle of Iona, a visit to the Abbey and the “cradle of Christianity” very excited about that, not to mention the walk along the craggy coast. Tonight we are hoping to find some live music and a place for dinner, so shall let you know how that works out for us.

About revthreads

I originally decided to get a blog because I think any adventure, travel experience should be journaled and then thought it's good to share. Some things may be interesting to others and other things not so much but sharing is good! I love to travel, I don't get to do as much as I would like, ultimately it would be my dream to just pack up, head off and keep going for as long as possible seeing and experiencing new things, meeting new and interesting people. Like a lot of people I have family and work commitments that keep me grounded, but I am fortunate enough to have a fair few opportunities to head out and live life to the full.
