it was our last full day on the island and we decided leisurely was the go. Breakfast at the Mariner cafe followed by a walk to the buggy hire shop to get our buggy! Now although these things are just a step away from mobility scooters they are basically golf carts and this island, well, main mode of transport, they are everywhere, so think motorbikes in Asia or autorickshaws in India, everywhere, and this place is hilly. We had our briefing – how to make this thing go forwards and backwards, how to go and how to stop, followed by where the plug is kept. Once strapped in it was off to One Tree Hill.
With foot flat to the floor we made it up the hills and arrived to yet another breathtaking view. The tip of the island with about 240 degree views of the ocean. Crystal clear waters, beach inlets, greenery, boats gliding over the water, jet skis leaving a trail of wash behind them. The sky blue, the sun shining, we had arrived to the tip of paradise. Happy Hour at the bar goes from 10am to 8pm, yep my kind of happy hour, cocktails $10, that said I opted for the ice cold lime water as we sat and overlooked the ocean. After taking photos and just taking in all that was around us, we headed back down to have a swim in one of the many pools, of course we chose the swim up bar pool, again I remained strong, I had a swim and them found a patch of grass to dry off in the sun. There were no available sun loungers, while this place has breathtaking views and amazing surrounds it is a bit Benidormesque, lots of people, each claiming a sun lounger or a spot with their towel, even if they spend all day in the pool.
We were going to play pool side bingo, just for a laugh, we went to the veranda bar and saw the fun crew, tucked away in the corner waiting to start the bingo, we edged close, looked at each other and decided we just couldn’t do it. So we got a drink sat on the veranda and listened on as the fun crew began. Seriously it did not sound fun, this crew sounded like they too just wanted it to be over. There were no legs 11, or Kelly’s eye number 1, you know the corny sort of things from bingo in days of old, this fun crew read the numbers so fast, they were serious and not fun!
Next stop Catseye Beach, the tide was out so we decided to walk to wade through the shallows and just check out around the rocky areas. Even this short walk through the shallows, even that revealed amazing marine life, trumpet fish, crabs, goat fish, and more I couldn’t name. The water was warm, 27 degrees, it was like taking a stroll in a giant bath, perfectly pleasant really.
Our mid afternoon was a lazy one on the balcony, chatting and chilling. We booked Romanos for dinner, the Italian restaurant on the marina and I have to say that it provided, particularly the vegetarians, the best meal of our short stay so far. The food and the ambience was just wonderful.
That was really it, just a relaxing, doing nothing kid of day!
